Human processes of control: Tracing the goals and strategies of control room teams

Article Abstract:

A process tracing methodology is used to analyze the goals and strategies of control room teams in dealing with an unpredicted plant disturbance. The results have shown substantial differences both within and between teams in how the goals of monitoring and implementing procedures during the detection phase, and problem-solving and plant control during the diagnosis phase are achieved. The temporal patterning of the activities associated with these goals revealed that the teams used different strategies.

Speech acts, communication problems, and fighter pilot team performance

Article Abstract:

Two aspects of team communication, speech acts and communication problems, and their relation to team performance in a team air combat simulator are explored to increase the understanding of how team performance is related to team communication. The analysis has shown that in order to work efficiently team members should communicate sufficiently and at appropriate times and this can be used for fighter pilot and controller team training and the development of communication standards.

Measuring team situation awareness in decentralized command and control environments

Article Abstract:

The concept of team situation awareness (SA) in decentralized systems beyond an individual-oriented knowledge-based construct is re-examined by considering it as a team interaction-based phenomenon. A theoretical framework is described for a process-based measure called 'coordinated awareness of situations by teams' (CAST).
