Ian Clubb of BSkyB

Article Abstract:

The UK satellite television firm BSkyB is the result of the merger of British Satellite Broadcasting and its rival Sky. BSkyB Deputy Managing Dir Ian Clubb came to the organization after 11 years in the newspaper industry and 13 years in the oil industry, but believes that the job at BSkyB is fundamentally the same. His position includes organizing the firm's financial structure and creating a funding package. The satellite television industry uses non-recourse project finance the same as the oil industry, and Clubb must produce figures to convince investors that there is a large potential market for the firm's service. Clubb has managed to gain 900 million pounds sterling in financing for BSkyB from banks, half of which is a non-recourse project loan, and half of which is guaranteed by the shareholders.

Spot the Catholic

Article Abstract:

There is still evidence of hostility against Catholics in Scotland although Catholics are well represented in the new Scottish Parliament and in local government. Further research is necessary to determine the extent of discrimination against Scottish Catholics. The enmity between Catholics and Protestants can be seen at matches between Glasgow Rangers and Celtic football teams. The Catholic church is also facing difficulties from a decline in numbers. Some observers are concerned the new parliament will decide to cut funding to Catholic schools.

Hissy fits and golden oldies: Madonna can have (or give or pitch) one, but her song isn't an example of the other one

Article Abstract:

The idiom, 'hissy fit' as used by Sen Orrin Hatch and others is rooted in the word 'hysterical.' Patrick Buchanan's 'The beast is coming,' quote is an example of deconstruction. The speaker is intent only on content. 'Golden oldies' a show business term can lessen the effect of inflammatory rhetoric.
