Impact of diversification on agricultural cooperatives in Wisconsin

Article Abstract:

Agricultural cooperatives have made a large contribution to the development of rural Wisconsin. In recent years, these cooperatives have chosen to diversify for internal and external reasons. An analysis of the performance of cooperatives that have diversified suggests a correlation between increased performance and an increase in membership. However, there is no strong evidence linking diversification with key performance areas such as profitability, patronage refunds per member or equity redemption.
