Inspector general sees 'Incomplete Information' on prowler upgrade

Article Abstract:

The Inspector General (IG) of the Department of Defense condemns the program manager for improved capability (ICAP) III providing the Navy's top procurement official with incomplete information on the operational assessment, which was prepared in anticipation of a low-rate production decision. According to him though the program manager assures that they had taken approval, but his report reveals that the details of operational test results showed several critical deficiencies in the system.

GAO cites 'Challenges' facing Navy DD(X) program

Article Abstract:

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) reveals the 'challenges' faced by the Navy in building its next generation DD(X) destroyer on cost and on schedule, which aims at boosting the service's ability to fight in shallow littoral waters. The reports indicate that the problems that might arise in testing would result in changes in the design, delays in product delivery and increases in product cost.

Navy admiral sees eNational challengeE for shipbuilding industry

Article Abstract:

The admiral in charge of building and maintaining the Navy's fleet expressed that preserving the shipbuilding base and attracting more talent to the shipbuilding profession should be a matter of national priority. Officials of the Naval Force stated that building and maintaining of the ships, which is required in the coming decades is also a national challenge.
