Insurance bargains emerge

Article Abstract:

Lloyd's of London has undergone restructuring which means that there are investment opportunities available. Lloyd's corporate vehicles have varying structures. They control new business insurance risks once a managing agent belongs to them. Syndicates vary according to the risk levels they present to investors, and the nuclear syndicate has provided high returns but possible claims could be extremely large. The cost of capacity is the easiest to assess and market prices are available.

Old Names face new options

Article Abstract:

Lloyd's of London Names face an increase in the minimum capital required for investors, and fees are also being raised. Schemes are being set up by many members' agents to permit Names to move their investments to limited liability vehicles. This could create problems in relation to capital gains tax, and investors also have to consider how to leave Lloyd's following conversion. Their options include setting up a personal company, and joining a limited liability partnership.

Axa's gap in the figures

Article Abstract:

Axa has adhered to US accounting guidelines in order to obtain a listing on the New York Stock Exchange. This has led to a reduction in the company's reported net income from 2.73 billion French francs to 324 million French francs. The accounting treatment of the sales of with-profits insurance by AXA Equity and Law explains much of the large difference. The company will be able to enhance access to global capital markets through the listing.
