JP Morgan

Article Abstract:

JP Morgan is a bank that is also involved in securities markets to a high degree. Lending accounts for a minor part of the business and this is an advantage in 1996 when margins are tightening in the US. The company performed well in 1st qtr 1996 with earnings and trading revenues growing. The strength of the stock market and low rates of interest are providing incentives for companies to tap markets which benefits JP Morgan due to investment banking fees it gains.

A conflict of interest?

Article Abstract:

Private banks may seek to act as one-stop shops. Coutts has set up a corporate finance division in order to provide a wider range of services for clients. Conflicts of interest can occur such as when a majority stockholder of a company is a Coutts client, and minority stockholders are not clients. Some argue that corporate finance and private wealth should be kept separate, while others see relationship banking as involving the integration of both types of service.
