JSF, Osprey, DD(X), LCS slowed in defense budget plan

Article Abstract:

The Department of Defense's (DOD) $419.3 billion budget plan provides a 4.8 percent increase in overall funding and a plan to double defense dollars by 2011, but the federal budget deficit doesn't appear as large as all procurement programs were fully funded. The Navy/Marine Corps spending plan of fiscal year 2006 delays the production of next generation F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), Ospreys, next-generation DD(X) destroyer program and amphibious ships.

Huge budget deficits to curb defense outlays: Experts

Article Abstract:

Analysts predict that the increasing budget deficits will exert relentlessly stronger downward pressure on Pentagon weapons procurement spending. Huge budget deficits will exert too much pressure to curb defense acquisition funding, though that pressure could be decreased perhaps by half if President George W. Bush fails in his drive to make his tax cuts permanent.
