Let's stick togther: all levels of government agree that concerted action is needed to tackle the PI crisis

Article Abstract:

The Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments adopted a reform package on professional indemnity (PI) as they all were in agreement over the issues of the market failure of PI insurance and the necessity for taking action. The policy approach of the ICCA and other professionsE professional standards legislation (PSL) along with the proportionate liability (PL) and the changes to the Trade Practices Act 1974 was supported by the joint Governments.

In Australia, the government lent support to global harmonization through its early work on Corporate Law Economic Reform Program (CLERP). The momentum could be seriously hampered if the Australian Securities and Investments Commissions (ASIC's) desire to add force of law to accounting and auditing standards.

The ICAA sent a letter to all federal politicians on 12 February, 2003 to support Inspector-General of Taxation (IGOT) Bill for improvements in the Australian taxation system. The senators adopted the bill to ensure a more efficient tax system for Australians.
