Miles better than anyone else

Article Abstract:

Miles Beharrell has won a competition on investment performance, despite not being permitted to invest in shares outside large companies by his employer, Prudential Life Corp. Beharrell has set up notional portfolios and his tactics can be summarised as four points. He advises acquiring shares prior to results when these are likely to be above expectations, then selling when prices rise. New highs in share prices can indicate a shift in a trend for a share. New highs prior to announcement of results indicate that further rises are likely. Shares can also be bought cheaply after a drop in price, though this involves risk.

Private clients must be extra vigilant

Article Abstract:

Private clients with grievances against financial services companies managing their assets can seek redress through several different avenues. The first point of complaint should be to the person who deals with their business. If the outcome is unsatisfactory, the head of the investment firm or bank should be approached and if this also fails complaints should be submitted to the company's regulators. The Securities and Futures Authority and the Investment Management Regulatory Organisation are the two main regulators for private clients.

Measuring your portfolio manager

Article Abstract:

Demand from clients is persuading some financial services providers to provide benchmarks by which investors can assess the performance of the managers of private client portfolios. Such benchmarks are already imposed on broker bond management services, but current regulations pertaining to private clients only exist to ensure the integrity of practitioners. Cantrade Investment Management has answered the demand for a measurement service by introducing the Cantrade Calculator which provides a basic means of performance measurement.
