Mythological study

Article Abstract:

The 'Mythological Study,' a poster designed by Rhode Island School of design graduate student Joseph M. Coates, won a gold award in the student work category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. The aim of the poster was to examine the role of the graphic arts in contemporary political and social realities. The poster provokes thought by presenting two seemingly disparate images, one a quotation from Antoine de Saint-Exupery, and the other a black image of a Stealth fighter.

Invisible, Insane poster

Article Abstract:

The 'Invisible, Insane' poster executed by Bielenberg Design at the invitation of the American Institute of Graphics to promote awareness of ozone depletion won a gold award in the graphics category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. In keeping with the poster's objective, the designers used recycled paper and nontoxic inks. The use of oversized letters in black and red against a background of skies produced a bold and visually rich effect.

Williamson poster

Article Abstract:

The promotional poster of Williamson Printing Corp won a gold award in the graphics category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. The poster designer was tasked to promote its client's technique of combining the four-color process printing with metallic inks. Two different designs were printed on each side of the translucent stock, and the interaction between these images when viewed through the stock produces an energetic and vital effect.
