Navy area ballistic missile defense: coming on fast

Article Abstract:

The need for an interim ballistic missile defense system was established following the almost fatal attack at a Saudi Arabian port on Feb 16, 1991. This led to efforts that culminated with the Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC) Two surface-to-air missile and the Army's PAC-3 Interceptor. However, continuing development of more advanced ballistic missiles makes it necessary for US officials to pursue similar improvements in defense systems.
