OGC

Article Abstract:

OGC reported a drop in pre-tax profit for 1st half 1996 and the company's results are unlikely to improve in the second half of this year. Work on oil rigs in the North Sea is declining and new contracts have not been won to offset this. The company also faces a loss on a major contract in Brunei, though its Norwegian business is again profitable. The company benefits from a strong balance sheet. OGC may achieve a profit of 7 million pounds sterling for 1996 compared with 14.2 million pounds for the previous year.

Ready for an offshore upturn

Article Abstract:

Chieftain should perform well over the longer term, despite short-term problems with profit. The company has been awarded contracts in mainland Europe and the United Kingdom. Low petroleum prices affected demand for the company's products, but this has changed with an upturn in petroleum prices. Chieftain has a strong cash flow and could make acquisitions. The company could achieve a profit of 700,000 pounds sterling for 1999, rising to 1.1 million pounds for 2000, according to Wise Speke.

The company's profit is forecast at some 2.5 million pounds sterling for 1998-1999. This could rise to 6.1 million pounds sterling for 1999-2000, according to Beeson Gregory.
