Prediction of slips: An evaluation of utilized coefficient of friction and available slip resistance

Article Abstract:

The relationship between measures of floor surface slip resistance and an individual's peak utilized coefficient of friction on the probability of a slip occurring during level walking was investigated. Results indicated that knowledge of a person's coefficient of friction and the available slip resistance as measured by the variable incidence tribometer can be used to predict the chances of a slip event during level walking.

Available friction of ladder shoes and slip potential for climbing on a straight ladder

Article Abstract:

The available friction at the base of a portable straight ladder in contact with a floor is measured and the slip potential of the ladder is estimated. The results of friction measurements indicate that the measured friction coefficient on the oily surfaces differs among the six commercially available ladder shoes evaluated.

Kinematics of heelstrike during walking and carrying: Implications for slip resistance testing

Article Abstract:

Heelstrike kinematics during load carrying was observed in a study that aimed at providing data towards improved slip resistance testing. It was observed that the load carried was an important predictor for only the heel slip distance after heelstrike.
