Put your trust in a specialist

Article Abstract:

UK investors using investment trusts and unit trusts to gain exposure to emerging markets have often seen the value of their investment drop in 1995. Interest is staring to revive by the end of 1995 and investors already in this market should wait before selling their holdings. Investors seeking long-term growth who can accept some level of risk are most suited to this type of investment vehicle. There are three major types of trust, those specializing in one country, those specializing in regions, and trusts involved in emerging markets across the globe.

Far East, including Japan

Article Abstract:

Investment trusts specialising in the Far East should bring benefits for UK investors, according to a number of UK investment managers. Martin Currie, and investment trust group, is launching a trust specialising in Japan, and Schroder is launching a trust for investments in other Far eastern economies. The Japanese market has come to be perceived as separate from other Far Eastern economies, but Ian Wright from Foreign and Colonial Pacific sees Japan as converging with other economies in the Far East.

Can you afford not to be choosy?

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom personal equity plans are likely to be sold in large amounts in their final year of 1998 to 1999. Investors should assess whether they need capital growth, income, or a mix of the two, and the level of risk they are prepared to assume. They should also assess their time scale which is important if Peps are to be used for specific purposes such as paying school fees. Performance and charges are also important, and performance should be assesed over the long term.
