QDR called vital to defense future, as Zakheim sounds off on programs

Article Abstract:

The significance of the 2005 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR), which is the first assessment since 9/11 of the potential threats to the security, military strategy and capabilities of the US, is examined. It is considered to be the most important review since the days of the Cold War and Dov Zakheim, former under secretary of defense and comptroller of the US Department of Defense, recommends the direction the services should take in the area of future platforms and technology acquisition.

Reagan honors halt senate work on DOD bill

Article Abstract:

The work related to the defense authorization bill for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2005, was delayed by a week due to the funeral and ceremonies held in honor of the former President Ronald Reagan. The Senate was engaged in a debate on the $448 billion measure but this debate was put on hold due to the death of the former President Ronald Reagan.

Air force would spare acquisitions from budget cuts

Article Abstract:

Acting Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England called upon the armed services to look for ways to trim some $32.1 billion from their budgets, over five years, in response to Pentagon calls for budget tightening. Air Force would protect its acquisitions program from cuts, instead shifting the economizing burden elsewhere.
