Lowering of interest rates has led to a bullish market for real estate investment trust (REIT) prospects, a view which is not shared by a majority of analysts. However, forecasts show that the REIT group will continue to be attractive yield play. Forecasts place Taubman Centers Inc. stock as the strongest and most actively followed with RFS Hotel Investors Inc. stocks close behind. BFS Bancorp stocks also recorded a high quantitative value.

The rise in interest on REIT can be attributed to the rapid increase in its number, the capacity of real estate to shield against inflation and the defensive characteristics of its investments. Insider activities that indicate a bullish trend include the purchase of shares by executives of Burnham Pacific Properties and Mills Corp.

These include the influx of new funds and the increase in interest from various pension plans. Moreover, some REITs exhibited strong fundamentals. In particular, apartment REITs like the Apartment Investment & Management and Bay Apartment Communities posted double-digit increases.
