Remember Y2K? Travel site used event for launch

Article Abstract:

Public relations services provider Spring O'Brien and Co exploited the concern surrounding the year 2000 computer date transition problem in 1999 to launch a travel site on the Internet World Wide Web. Concierge.com began operations on a bright note in 1999 with a highly successful breakfast discussion on technology and the future of travel that attracted the attention of more than 80 New York, NY, media. These media people listened to a panel of high profile speakers conduct an animated discussion ranging from the 19th-century grand tour of Europe to the 21st- century grand orbit of planet Earth.

Travel partnerships extend reach of PR

Article Abstract:

The biggest challenge confronting travel public relations (PR) services providers is how they can help clients reach more potential travelers where they live, work and play, and entice these people to go on a trip. Traditional press releases and publication articles or feature stories will no longer suffice in these PR firms' communications programs. PR company BSMG Worldwide's experience with client Hilton Head Island is an apt example of the use of creative devices in marketing/communications programs to generate consumer attention and response.

Travel PR: aren't we in a service business?

Article Abstract:

Publication editors frequently complain about travel public relations (PR) companies' lack of customer service to the media people they seek help from to promote clients' destinations. Travel PR people wine dine and schedule free trips for travel writers and editors, yet fail to give the assistance these journalists require when they really need it. This situation may partly be attributed to the traditional low retainer paid by travel companies for PR.
