Reviewing the review process

Article Abstract:

Companies have been using different performance evaluation techniques for their employees. Steelcase and Ricoh Corp have enabled their employees to become more involved with the company by allowing them to evaluate themselves and set their own goals. Others have employed coaching, where employees evaluate their previous month's performance and outline goals for the following month with their immediate supervisors. United Parcel Service of America instills in its employees how they contribute to the success of the organization with its quality performance review system.

It's the name game: firms must weigh reasons before making changes

Article Abstract:

Anspach Grossman Enterprise's 27th semiannual survey revealed a 30% increase in corporate name changes during the 1st half of 1996. The survey showed that 772 companies changed their names during the period, compared to only 593 during the same period last year. Although name changes seem to indicate growth, some analysts warned companies against such a practice. Aside from the substantial advertising costs associated with name changes, analysts noted that many organizations are not comfortable with the practice.
