Looking for the ripple effect

Article Abstract:

The impact of California's Proposition 71 (Prop 71), which came into effect since 2005, on the embryonic stem (ES) cell research and development in California are discussed. Prop 71 is hindered by the legal challenges of those opposing stem cell research and Prop 71 and this has seized up funding and construction in San Francisco where the planned California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) is to be built.

The exclusion of diagnostic methods from patentability by the EPC: a case for review?

Article Abstract:

The confusion for patent practitioners outside the EPC that diagnostic methods are exempted from patentability, in particular taking into account that any patent system should favor innovation and technical advance is described. The rationale behind it is to ensure that patent issues do not affect medical treatments for the public.
