Sea swap could become the norm

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Navy has successfully carried out the experimental sea swap program of rotating crews on destroyers. Buoyed by this achievement the Navy is looking at the possibility of using such sea swaps to increase the length of time spent on station by other ship types including those in expeditionary attack groups and missile defense missions.

Aerostats could cover carrier battle groups-CRS

Article Abstract:

According to Congressional Research Service (CRS), Navy must possibly use blimps to provide persistent, long-range radar protection for carrier cattle groups. Aerostats may provide Navy flexibility by creating more deck space for F/A 18 E/F Super Hornets.

Rumsfeld says Navy can operate with fewer carrier groups

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has stated that the Navy can operate with fewer carrier groups, as it does not require a fulltime carrier strike group in every region of the globe. He has also described his plans for global force positioning.
