CAE to build KC-130J simulators

Article Abstract:

CAE USA Inc. that builds about 80 percent of the simulators for commercial airliners worldwide, will provide three KC-130J weapons systems trainers to the Marine Corps, the procurement of which is under an existing Air Force C-130J Maintenance and Aircrew Training System contract. The company is also making three helicopter simulators for Boeing's AH/MH-6 Little Bird, Sikorsky's MH-60K Black Hawk and the Boeing MH-47G Chinook that form a part of the Army's 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.

New gun covers Super Stallion's rear

Article Abstract:

The Marines are installing the new GAU-21, a heavy machine gun on a mount specially designed for the Super Stallion's ramp, to address an urgent requirement to protect the vulnerable 'six-o'clock' region on the Pentagon's largest helicopter. The Marines Corps has ordered 160 GAu-21 Ramp Mounted Weapons System in two contracts worth a combined $11 million from FN Herstal.

CRS questions cost of new Army recon helo

Article Abstract:

The analysts at the Congressional Research Service (CRS) have indicated that the Congress should take a close look at the effectiveness of an Army proposal to purchase 368 armed-reconnaissance helicopters. The new helicopters would replace the aging fleet of OH-58D Kiowa warriors and take over the mission of the cancelled RAH-66 Comanche armed scout.
