Small firm jumps into UAV fray with low-cost CyberBug

Article Abstract:

A one year-old small start-up firm Cyber Defense Systems Inc. is making its foray into the burgeoning unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), with a low-cost micro UAV that the company feels can compete effectively with higher-priced rivals. The company is developing the CyberBug micro UAV, which would be 25 feet long and can weigh between 2.5 pounds and 14 pounds, the smallest of which can fit into a backpack and be assembled in about 30 seconds.

Tech firm uses mesh networking to tie together UAVs, more

Article Abstract:

Machine Talker Inc., of Santa Barbara, California, is testing its wireless mesh networking aboard unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) with NASA and the company is also deploying the technology on shipping containers and military convoys to increase security. The system is designed to share sensor data among nearby UAVs to tie them together in groups and enhance autonomous capability, with no ground station connection.

Small Honeywell Drome on tract as FCS UAV

Article Abstract:

The Boeing Co. in 2005 reported that Honeywell's micro air vehicle (MAV) is on the track to become the Class I unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for the Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) program. Honeywell is developing its 12.5-pound MAV under a two-phased arrangement with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
