Solid foundations

Article Abstract:

The PACE Partnership conducted a study to know how small and mid-sized accountancy firms perform in eight core aspects of new client generation. The study found out that the firms' approach was scientific and was based on solid foundations, however, there were opportunities for further improvement and a adopting a proactive approach would help to gain new clientele.

Middle tier accounting firms need to get a closer grip on their business strategy, and consider how they are going to compete against Big Four and smaller practices. In strategic terms, the game is often won or lost through a careful and pragmatic assessment of the specializations of the firm, and whether it can compete against bigger players.

The lack of business plan developments, failing to establish cogent sales and marketing strategy are the factors that limit the long-term strength of the company. The marketing strategies used for the development of the accountancy firms are discussed.
