Strategic decision-making processes: the role of management and context

Article Abstract:

Studies on the role of decision-making processes (DMP) in the management of business enterprises have gained much advancement and acceptance. However, there is still a dearth of objective data on the validity of DMP theories. This experiment provided evidence on the different factors influencing strategic decision-making concerning corporate investments. Findings showed the significant impact of attributes related to type of business decision to be made on choice of strategy. These attributes included managers' view on the extent of effect of the decision on the company, as well as magnitude of risk. Data gathered also supported the greater correlation of logic-based decisions to investments on capital equipment as compared to investments in start-up companies and marketing. Furthermore, findings highlighted the importance of varied senior management traits on business DMPs.
