Holders of Amstrad stock will receive a package including a Viglen Technology share, loan stock, a stake in Betacom and an IOU for funds arising from litigation. Many investors will be able to use their capital allowance for gains, so will not pay tax, but there is some complex paperwork for other investors. These include investors who do not hold their Amstrad stocks in personal equity plans (Peps). Meanwhile, Pep investors cannot shelter the loan notes within their Peps.

Oracle is seeking to promote network computers (NCs) as an alternative for users who do not need personal computers (PCs). The company's chairman, Larry Ellison, haslaunched the NC's operating specifications and foresees an expansion to levels where NCs are used as much as telephones. NCs would be cheaper than PCs and would face competition since PC prices are falling. NCs would not be tied to a single operating system which could affect Microsoft's dominance.
