Telecom Bill... dont't look for near term winners... insiders aren't

Article Abstract:

The signing into law of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 by US Pres Bill Clinton was met with enthusiasm by telecommunications firms. In particular, the law is expected to benefit cable companies and cable equipment manufacturers in the near term. However, these companies would have to upgrade from copper to fiber optic delivery systems if they are to fully exploit the law's benefits. The law also affects cellular, telecommunications hardware, data networking and Regional Bell Operating Companies. Its signing has also affected insider trading activity.

Think copper's going higher? Check Insiders first

Article Abstract:

Copper producer shares staged a strong rally in late Jul. 1995 in anticipation of a tight metal market. Industry observers have opted for a more cautious prediction of the commodity's future, though, due to an expected oversupply. The spectre of a possible copper surplus was reflected in the sales involving Asarco Inc., Phelps Dodge Corp. and Magma Copper Co.
