The rewards of innovation

Article Abstract:

Carl Cushnie's company, Versailles, is an example of successful business innovation. Versailles arranges trade finance in such a way that large customers owe Versailles for finance arranged for small suppliers. Suppliers send an invoice to Versailles when they deliver orders, and the supplier is paid four fifths of the invoice value less a fee of some 2.5%. Versailles operates in areas of which it has knowledge. The company has grown rapidly, though it is still relatively small compared to others in the business.

The rewards of simplicity

Article Abstract:

A college at Cambridge University, England, has used simple tewchniques to manage its own investments. The college has sought to keep administrative costs to a minimum and refrain from paying for advice. The college switched from bonds to equities with holdings categories in the industrial page of the Financial Times newspapers. The system has worked well and has performed better than the FT-A All-Share index. The aim is to take a long term approach and hold shares which are bought.
