Treasurer, surf thyself: does a Web site make sense for your treasury department? It did for EDS

Article Abstract:

The treasury web site of Electronic Data Systems (EDS) took a lot of research and thought from both the treasury department and risk management department to achieve its present utility and acceptance. Through the EDS intranet, employees from the company's other domestic and foreign units can have access to uniform information and services. EDS treasurer Bill Benac believes that the intranet has allowed his department to be more productive, freeing up employee time from queries and speeding up the delivery of such services as certificates of insurance, letters of credit, electronic funds transfer, leasing contracts and hedging policies.

But the system alone is expected to facilitate many transactions between companies, including mergers, outsourcing, electronic data interchange and claims processing.
