UK: RESEARCH INTO COSMETICS MARKET SHARE

Article Abstract:

Multiple grocers now have 4.7% of cosmetic sales totalling GB[pound] 322mn in the UK, compared with leading player, Boots, which has a share exceeding 39%. Research released in November 1999 by the Taylor Nelson Sofres Beauty panel found that Boots has 24% of the market for fine fragrances, while multiple grocers had 4.5%. Researchers say that although the multiples' share is small, there is major potential, with supermarkets already obtaining sales from women aged between 19 and 24 and 35 and 64 who are in the middle-income bracket.
