Homely fare is best bet for retirement investor

Article Abstract:

UK investors saving through personal pension schemes should gear their strategies according to their age, with younger savers making greater usage of equities. With-profits funds are safer for investors near retirement though bonus rates have been cut. Investors may want to diversify if they have many years to retirement, though they have to pay two sets of set-up charges if they use two pension plans. Some companies offer access to more than one investment manager.

UK pension funds' 100 pounds billion sterling mistake: pension funds could have invested 100 billion pounds sterling in the wrong places - because international diversification may not be as rewarding as they believe

Article Abstract:

Nearly a quarter of pension funds' 500 billion pounds plus assets are invested overseas, which is not as useful as fund managers think, according to a study by chief economist at BZW, Michael Hughes. The pension funds have the option of switching into UK equities or to move out of G7 countries towards emerging markets. There is little point in diversifying overseas as the benefits decline as more people do it.
