The promise of videoconferencing technology is fast approaching reality as companies have begun developing applications for it. This technology basically equips the user with the advantages of a telephone and television within the confines of a desktop computer environment. Medicine and education have been among the most avid believers in the technology as they see its potential in distance learning. Multi-person interaction from multiple locations is the ultimate aim.

ITT Sheraton gets sales wake-up call

ITT Sheraton Corp. has implemented measures to upgrade its marketing strategy after a survey of meeting planners revealed dissatisfaction within its customer base. To beef up its sales, the Boston, MA-based company grouped its sales force into five key divisions to enable salespeople to address customer needs. In addition, it also doubled its sales staff, equipped them with laptop computers and provided a toll-free phone number on its ads.

According to studies, an audience can remember five of 10 key points during a presentation if a single graph is added compared with only one without any visual aids. Some of the latest presentation devices and graphics are photo compact disc, overheads, slide projectors, flip charts, video walls and multimedia.
