Volatility is increasing..

Article Abstract:

There have been plenty of price movements in major US stocks during mid- 1997. Advanta Corp (ADVNA) is one of the stock issues which experienced a big change in its stock price. An ADVNA stock was priced at $55 in March but two months later the price skidded to $20. However, ADVNA's stock price has rebounded and achieved an 80% increase. Interstate Bakeries (IBC) is another stock issue that exhibited changes in its stock price as it decreased from $75 to $60, during the last two years. Mallinckrodt Inc., on the other hand, experienced insider buyings which was motivated by company rulings.

Beyond health care and drugs

Article Abstract:

The medical supply and health care industries have experienced significant insider selling from Dec 1992 to Feb 1993. The profit-taking has been prompted by Pres Bill Clinton's impending tax hikes. The other sectors which have shown high distribution levels include computer software and hardware, electronics, broadcasting, telecommunications, apparel, biotechnology, drug stores, restaurants and steel. These stocks are likely to encounter hampered growth in the coming months.

Becton, Dickinson & Co

Article Abstract:

Becton, Dickinson and Co belongs to the healthcare sector. Three insiders purchased 1,500 shares between Jan and Feb 1993 at a price average of $37.25. The significance of the accumulations is evident upon consideration that the purchases occurred before a two-for-one stock split. It would seem that the insiders are more optimistic about the split than usual.
