Article Abstract:

US tobacco companies face litigation and investors should not expect tobacco firms to be able to negotiate immunity from future prosecutions. There have been reports that a settlement could be achieved that would end future litigation. Individual legal action is still likely against tobacco companies. Companies may gain immunity from being sued by US states for medical treatment costs but they are not likely to gain general immunity.
