Weldon: tough decisions ahead for fighter programs

Article Abstract:

Rep. Curt Weldon, the chairman of the House Armed Service's Committee's tactical air land subcommittee has stated that Congress will have to make some tough decisions while writing the next defense budget in order to cater for the funding of three tactical avaiation programs, namely the Navy's F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet, the Air Force's F/A-22 Raptor and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). The $14 billion alloted to the Comanche that has now been cancelled by the Army after six program restructurings will now be used for other aviation programs as there is no likelihood of an increase in defense spending.
