Well-timed

Article Abstract:

Morgan Crucible directors have bought stocks in the company prior to brokers' buy recommendations being published. Directors bought stocks in the company in May 1997 and Jul 1997 and buy recommendations were published afterwards in both cases. The company argues that analysts' recommendations are their own affair and they can be mistaken. The Stock Exchange argues that rules have not been broken. Unpublished buy recommendations could be seen as price-sensitive information, so this view could be disputed.

Streamline: coming out of its shell

Article Abstract:

Streamline is a UK road services and construction materials company which plans a flotation. The company should benefit from an increase in mileage traveled by UK motorists which is expanding its market for road services, and the building products division is also performing well. The company aims to raise some 20 million pounds sterling through the flotation and this will reduce Streamline's gearing to some 30%. Acquisitions in the field of road services may be undertaken.
