Northfield Laboratories product, PolyHeme is in phase 3 trials in the United States and Northfield is expected to profit from the product's success though a lot of risk is involved in its manufacturing. Northfield leads the other companies in its business of developing a safe and effective alternative to transfused blood and the positives favoring it include a huge market with no competition on the horizon and a debt-free company with low overhead.

The protection racket

Article Abstract:

Some of the ways of insuring against the volatility of the biotech stocks are discussed. It is believed that calls and puts options used as insurance would reduce potential profits by the amount of option premium that is paid for the insurance while on the other hand it also downsizes the risk and will make some profit on the option if losses are incurred.
