When specialist knowledge is no bar to betting

Article Abstract:

Spread betting has increased in popularity, and betting on individual stock price movements may prove attractive to investors as an alternative to investing directly in stocks. Professional speculators find spread betting attractive as a way of using their knowledge. Investors can make losses as well as gains, so they should be cautious. Investors can contact brokers to bet on futures for single stocks, and they can set up stop losses in order to limit the amount that they could lose.

Worried about the market? Put not your faith in experts

Article Abstract:

Investors who are concerned about stock price falls can increase their cash holdings, though this may mean that they miss out on growth. They can also select defensive stocks, though it is unclear how well such stocks will perform at a time of low inflation. Put options can be used, though they are expensive. Collective investments can also be used. Institutions and brokers are better placed to invest in hedge funds. Hedging can also be carried out hrough spread bets.

How to buy shares that offer income

Article Abstract:

Stocks with higher yields tend to be riskier and the extra yield is seen as compensation for the additional risk. Investors can combine stocks that tend to respond differently to the same stimuli, or have a low covariance. This is not true for water stocks which all tend to be affected by regulations. Expected price peformance may not be as importance as investors believe since prices may already take into accoiunt information on expected performance.
