Xerox counts on big bucks from small businesses

Article Abstract:

Xerox Corp wants to transform its customer information system into one that will be applicable to innovative telemarketing and advertising campaigns. The transformation is supposed to capture a bigger share of the profitable small business operations. Xerox has appointed a vice president-level official to supervise the operations of its general markets which provide for those enterprises producing less than 30,000 copies/month. A more comprehensive data gathering for the company's database will also be implemented.

HP conquers channels with speed

Article Abstract:

Hewlett-Packard Co (HP) is trying to upgrade its order fulfillment record and improve relationships with its retailers to counter advances made by competitors taking advantage of its past problems fulfilling orders. HP now ships some of its units only partially completed to the warehouses where they are fully assembled before shipment to retailers. The company is also studying successful distribution practices in non-competing industries in an effort to improve its own services.

IBM Printing Systems Co. set out to take away a large portion of the work-group printer market from entrenched leaders HP, Apple and Lexmark International. The company created a special product development, field services and marketing team to develop a comprehensive marketing strategy. The strategy involved product introduction announcements, sales initiatives and direct mail advertising.
