One way to focus freshmen on careers

Article Abstract:

College freshmen can be taught how to focus on careers by integrating career planning into the freshman term paper. Students are more participative if they structure the term paper themselves by posing questions about possible future careers and organizing their ideas into specific researchtopics. Coordination with the school's career resource center provides studentswith answers to several of their questions, which can be substantiated by library research and interviews. An evaluation of one such program shows that students found the term paper assignment the most valuable and relevant to their lives.
