Aggregation and gel formation in basic silico-calco-alkaline solutions studied: a SAXS, SANS, and ELS study

Article Abstract:

Appropriate additions of calcium ions promoted gelation of strongly basic silico-alkaline solutions. Small-angle x-ray, small-angle neutron and elastic light scattering were used to study the structure of the aggregates formed in the precursor sols and the resulting gels. The experimental results showed that gels were composed of aggregates exhibiting a fractal structure. Furthermore, it was observed that large particles formed in the solutions just after calcium addition and, in some cases, small primary particles remaining in the solution phase.

Multiple equilibria of phenothiazine dyes in aqueous cyclodextrin solutions

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the dimerization and inclusion complexation equilibria of phenothiazine (PN) dyes with cyclodextrins in aqueous media using fluorescence and absorption spectroscopy. The six PN dyes included azure A, thionine, toluidine blue, methylene blue 1,9-dimethylmethylene blue and new methylene blue. Results suggest that the dye monomers fit better to beta-CD and the dimers fit snugly to gamma-CD.
