Alternative view of self-diffusion and shear viscosity

Article Abstract:

The conventional velocity autocorrelation function expression for the temperature and density dependent self-diffusion constant D(T,rho) is reformulated to emphasize the way in which the initial particle momentum biases final mean displacement. The self-diffusion and viscous flow processes in terms of configuration space inherent structures and kinetic transitions between their basins are analyzed and one possible mechanism for this violation is found to emerge.

Diffusion coefficients in ionic liquids: Relationship to the viscosity

Article Abstract:

The relationship between the diffusion coefficient and the viscosity in computer simulations for a number of ions diffusing in a molten salt (alkali halide) solvent is examined. The different behaviors found can be related to the time scale for the relaxation of the coordination shell as compared to the structural relaxation time of the solvent.

Confined diffusion in a sponge phase

Article Abstract:

The experimental measurements of self-diffusion coefficients of a polar molecule (fluorescein) as well as of two water-soluble proteins in the aqueous space between the bilayers of a sponge surfactant are reported. The study reveals that the self-diffusion coefficient varies linearly with the bilayer volume fraction.
