Catalytic reduction of alpha,omega-dihaloalkanes, X(CH2)mX (X = Cl, Br, or I and m + 2-8), by electrochemically generated C(sub 70)(super n-) (n = 2 or 3) in benzonitrile solutions

Article Abstract:

A cyclic voltammetry study indicated that Carbon(sub 70)(super n-) (n = 2 or 3) that was electrochemically produced in 0.1 M tetra-n-butylammonium hexafluorophsophate benzonitrile catalyzes the dehalogenation of alpha,omega-dihaloalkanes, X(CH2)mX (X = Cl, Br, or I and m + 2-8). The values of the second-order rate constant, k, were found to increase in the order Cl < Br < I for the examined 1,2-dihaloethanes. The k values were observed to decrease as the number of carbon atoms of the alkyl chain for the examined series of alpha,omega-dihaloalkanes decreases.

Aggregation of fullerene, C60, in benzonitrile

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the aggregation of fullerene C60 in benzonitrile. A pump-probe spectrometer was utilized to perform the picosecond laser flash photolysis. The Shimadzu UV-160A spectrophotometer was utilized to determine ground state optical absorption measurements. Experimental results indicated that changes in the absorption features and deviation from linearity correlated with the aggregation of C60.

Theoretical studies of Benzonitrile at the Si (100)-2x1 surface

Article Abstract:

The ab initio calculations on benzonitrile at the Si (100)-2x1 surface are carried out and the subsequent effects are investigated. The calculations illustrate that C equiv N [2+2] cycloaddition is the selective pathway for chemisorbed benzonitrile at the Si (100)-2x1 surface.
