Chemical behavior of lithium ions in reexpanded Li-montmorillonites

Article Abstract:

The exchangeability, hydration capacity, intermellar availability and thermal reactivity of lithium ions in reexpanded lithium-montrollonites were investigated in two experiments. The first utilized a thermal treatment to analyze the possibility of the recollapse of the sample and the exchange capacity was examined through an ionic exchange with sodium ions and additional thermal treatment. The reversibility of the process for lithium ions was determined since the sample recollapsed following the thermal treatment and an ionic exchange in NaCl solution.

Inherent acidity of aqua metal ions in solids: an assay in layered aluminosilicates

Article Abstract:

Structural information on 2:1 layered silicates were obtained from (super 1) H magic spinning nuclear magnetic resonance measurements, by determining the acidity of aqua metal ions in the interlayer space. Representative end-members of the smectite group and a set of cautions covering wide ranges of pK (sub a), absolute hardness, ionic radius, and formal charge values were carefully shown.

Relationship between optical basicity and thermochemistry of silicates

Article Abstract:

The relationship between optical basicity and thermochemistry of silicates is established through the quantitative relationship between optical basicity and electronegativity. These trends are identified for silicate and aluminosilicate compounds of calcium and magnesium.
