Colloidal stability and the influence of the dissolved gas

Article Abstract:

The colloidal stability of synthetic silica spheres with clean, methylated, and dehydroxylated surfaces is studied at different concentrations of dissolved gas and KCl electrolyte at a fixed pH of 4.2. A classic stability ratio/electrolyte concentration analysis shows that hydrophobic, methylated particles undergo faster rates of aggregation with increasing concentrations of dissolved carbon dioxide.

Formation, absorption spectrum, and chemical reactions of nanosized colloidal cobalt in aqueous solution

Article Abstract:

The preparation of cobalt nanoparticles using the chemical reduction of Co(super 2+) ions by NaBH (sub 4) in inverse micelles is reported and optical measurement was carried out at wavelengths above 250nm. The results obtained show that under gamma-irradiation the reduction of cobalt ions in aqueous solutions containing formate occurs in an autocatalytic regime.

Photoenhancement of luminescence in colloidal CdSe quantum dot solutions

Article Abstract:

Photoenhancement effect in colloidal CdSe and (CdSe)ZnS core-shell quantum dots attached to a variety of surfactant molecules in aqueous and nonaqueous environment is observed. Results show that the effect occurs in dots suspended in a variety of organic or aqueous situations.
