Controlled chemical and structural properties of mixed self-assembled monolayers by coadsorption of symmetric and asymmetric disulfides on Au(111)

Article Abstract:

A new method of controlling nanoscale structures of mixed self-assembled monolayers (SAMS) on atomically flat Au(111) surfaces by coadsorption from a solution containing asymmetric and syemmetric disulphides is presented. Results indicate that mixed disulphides formed homogeneous SAMs, whereas the mixed thiols with similar surface compositions led to phase segregation on the Au(111) surfaces.

Surface grafted sulfobetaine polymers via atom transfer radical polymerization as superlow fouling coatings

Article Abstract:

Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) with atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) are characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Superlow fouling surfaces are achieved after well-controlled initiator formation and surface polymerization on gold surfaces.

Protein adsorption on oligo(ethylene glycol)-terminated alkanethiolate self-assembled monolayers: The molecular basis for nonfouling behavior

Article Abstract:

A study of protein resistance of oligo(ethylene glycol) (OEG), HS(CH2)11(OCH2CH2)nOH (n =2, 4, and ^), self-assembled monolayers on Au(111) surfaces is presented. For EG2OH- and EG4OH-SAms, proteins adsorb more on the densely packed SAMs prepared from mixed ethanol and water solutions.
