Core-level shift of Si nanocrystals embedded in a SiO2 matrix

Article Abstract:

The introduction of Si into a SiO2 thin film enhances the charging effect greatly as compared to the system of a pure SiO2 thin film grown on a Si substrate. The charging effect has a strong influence on the Si 2p core levels causing the core levels of all oxidation states Si(super n+) in the material system to shift to a higher binding energy.

Incorporation of transition-metal complexes in functionalized mesaporous silica and their activity toward the oxidation of aromatic amines

Article Abstract:

The highly ordered mesoporous material H(sub I)SiO(sub 2) is prepared at room temperature and low pH utilizing a high concentration of nonionic surfactant to achieve a hexagonal ordered phase with a pore size of 3.5 nm. The outer-sphere mechanism is probably followed in this redox system is indicated by the experimental results.

Structure of the room-temperature ionic liquid/SiO2 interface studied by sum-frequency vibrational spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The orientation of the imidazolium cation at the RTIL/SiO2 interface, as well as the structure of the interfacial water molecules using sum-frequency vibrational spectroscopy (SFVS) is determined. The alkyl chain of the imidazolium cation was determined to be nearly normal to the surface for all the RTILs examined.
