Direct observation of C(sub 2) hydrocarbon-oxygen complexes on Ag(110) with a variable-low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope

Article Abstract:

A variable-low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope (STM) was used to observe oxygen (O(sub 2)), ethylene (C(sub 2)H(sub 4)) molecules on a Ag(110) surface and the various complexes that were formed between these two hydrocarbons and oxygen at 13 K. Ethylene molecules (s) were moved to the vicinity of O(sub 2) either by STM tunneling electrons at 13 K or thermally at 45 K to form (C(sub 2)H(sub 4))(sub x)-)(sub 2) (x=1-4) complexes stabilized by C-H...O hydrogen bonding.

Small molecule directed aggregation of a heme peptide on gold: An STM study

Article Abstract:

A scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) is used to study the functional aggregation of heme oxygen-sensing/signaling proteins in solution and microperoxidase (MP)11 is adsorbed on Au(111) surfaces. It is revealed that it is possible to systematically control MP11 aggregation on Au(111), while in the STM images, structural details of both the heme ring and the polypeptide substructure in individual MP11 molecules are observed.

Disproportionation of gold(II) complexes. A density functional study of ligand and solvent effects

Article Abstract:

A computational study of gold(II) disproportionation is described for the atomic ion as well as complexes with chloride and neutral ligands. The effects of ligand, solvent and relativity are investigated by using density functional theory.
