First-principles simulation of scanning tunneling microscopy images of individual molecules in alkanethiol self-assembled momolayers on Au(111)

Article Abstract:

The experiments were conducted to obtain the density functional calculations with local density approximation by using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) in closely packed upright alkanethiol self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on Au(111) surface. The results indicate the enhanced intermixing of the alkyl part with the Au state, and the sulphur atom in alkanethiol influences the pattern in the scanning tunneling microscopy image by its chemisorption mode on the Au(11) surface.

Conduction mechanism of Aviram-Ratner rectifiers with single pyridine-sigma-[C.sub.60] oligomers

Article Abstract:

The electron transport of pyridyl aza[60]fulleroid oligomers, abbreviated as [C.sub.60]NPy, which is based on the donor-barrier-acceptor (D-sigma-A) architecture is presented at a single molecular scale using scanning tunneling microscopy. The I-V curves for single [C.sub.60]NPy molecules reveal asymmetric features, which means rectification at a single molecular scale.

In situ scanning tunneling microscopy examination of molecular adlayers of haloplatinate complexes and electrochemically produced platinum nanoparticles on Au(111)

Article Abstract:

In situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) imaging indicates the formation of highly ordered molecular adlayers of Au(111) in a solution consisting different complexes. The electrocatalysis toward the oxygen diminution of platinum particles on Au(111) is studied.
