Theory of the fluorescence of single molecules undergoing multistate conformational dynamics

Article Abstract:

A study is reported that shows the fluorescence decay of an N-state system seen in some single-molecule experiments is multiexponential with random amplitudes if the experiment's duration is finite. The probability density for these amplitudes is calculated.

Single-macromolecule fluorescence resonance energy transfer and free-energy profiles

Article Abstract:

A theory is developed to obtain the probability distribution of the energy-transfer efficiency obtained from trajectories of duration T. The efficiency is an explicit function of the distance between a fluorescent donor and acceptor attached to the macromolecule, thus efficiency can formally be converted to a distance.

Fluorophore-quencher distance correlation functions from single-molecular photon arrival trajectories

Article Abstract:

The method of Yang and Xie is generalized to obtain distance correlation functions from photon arrival trajectories of single fluorophores whose lifetime, [k(r)](super -1), depends on the distance to a quencher. It is shown that in order to get the fluorophore-quencher distance correlation function and equilibrium averages of powers of the distance, the delay time trajectory should be transformed by replacing each delay time by a certain function of that time.
