The kinetic deuterium isotope effect as a probe of a proton coupled electron transfer mechanism in the oxidation of guanine by 2-aminopurine radicals

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the photoexcitation of 2-aminopurine and 2-aminopurine riboside in neutral solutions and buffer solutions are reported.

Proton-coupled electron-transfer reactions at a distance in DNA duplexes: Kinetic deuterium isotope effect

Article Abstract:

Kinetic solvent isotope effects on the electron-transfer kinetics associated with the oxidation of guanine by a 2-aminopurine (2AP) neutral radical separated by 2 or 3 thymine, or 6 adenine residues on the same strand in 15-mer double-stranded oligonucleotides in H2O or D2O were measured. Thus, electron-transfer reactions occurring at a distance in the DNA duplexes can be considered in terms of proton-coupled electron-transfer reactions.

Oxidation of guanine at a distance in oligonucleotides induced by two-photon photoionization of 2-aminopurine

Article Abstract:

It has been established that intense 308 nm laser pulses induce site-selective photoionization of 2AP residues in oligonucleotides and free 2AP in aqueous solutions. 2AP radicals selectively oxidize guanines and do not react substantially with any of the other nucleic acid bases.
